If a swimmer’s ID is missing, simply ask the swimmer, check the meet check-in sheet, or reference the heat sheet—if all else fails, the scorekeeper can make adjustments on the iPad.
Even with the best preparation, timers will sometimes find themselves without a swimmer’s ID number when it's time to record a time. It happens! Swim meets move fast, and there are plenty of reasons why a swimmer’s ID might be missing in the moment. Don't worry, there are quick and easy ways to track down a swimmer’s ID so you can keep the meet running smoothly!
How to Find a Swimmer’s ID Quickly:
1. Just Ask the Swimmer!
This may seem too simple, but it’s often the fastest solution. Most swimmers—especially those who have been competing for a while—know their ID number by heart. Just ask, and they’ll likely rattle it off for you. Once you enter it, their name will appear on the screen for confirmation.
2. Check the Meet Check-In Sheet
Each team usually has a meet check-in sheet—a simple, one-page reference listing all swimmers’ names and ID numbers. If you have access to this, it’s the best backup resource for swimmer IDs.
Pro Tip: Some teams laminate a copy of this (which can be found in the Swimmingly Clubhouse > Manage Roster > Actions >Download Meet Checkin Sheet) and keep it at the timer's table for quick reference, especially for newer timers who might need extra help during their first season.
3. Reference the Heat Sheet (If Available)
If a heat sheet has been provided, it will usually include swimmers’ names and ID numbers for each event. Some teams hand out printed heat sheets to timers as an extra layer of organization.
However, not every team provides them for timers. If you have one, it’s a helpful backup, but the meet check-in sheet is usually quicker and easier to use.
Still Can’t Find the Swimmer’s ID? Don’t Panic!
If none of the above options work, that’s okay—there’s still a solution! The scorekeeper on the iPad can make adjustments later to ensure the correct swimmer gets credited for their race.
